Get a Sleeved-Gown Look by Transforming a Strapless-Gown

il_570xn-324009585Looking for a gown with straps or sleeves but keep running into more gowns that are strapless? Don’t let dresses that are currently without sleeves or straps deter you from looking at them. By simply adding a topper, bolero or through the assistance of your seamstress, you can create the perfect custom sleeved look.

Whether it is for a little more coverage or to express your own style, adding sleeves to a strapless dress can add a romantic dimension to an already beautiful gown.

Toppers go over the bodice of the gown to transform it to a button illusion back, long sleeve off the shoulder, V-neck with cap sleeves, and many more styles.

Boleros are short jackets and can be made with a multitude of different fabrics from lace to taffeta. Bolero jackets give gowns a beautiful Queen Anne neckline where the back of the neckline is wider and leads to a more open front. You can also get one that creates a keyhole back design.

Seamstresses are true artisans and are a great resource for helping you to create your vision. For example, if a dress needs to be hemmed, it might be possible for them to take the material they removed and create cap sleeves with it. Helpful hint: It may help to have reference photos when sharing your ideas with your alteration person.

Have fun with the possibilities!
